Why Tuah Advisory

What distinguishes our approach

Grounded in Sabah's Context

We do not apply frameworks designed elsewhere. Our work is shaped around Borneo's actual business conditions — logistics, seasonal patterns, state-federal dynamics and the realities of operating from Kota Kinabalu.

Written Deliverables You Can Use

Every engagement ends with a clear written document. Not slides, not a verbal briefing — a considered piece of work your team and advisors can refer back to over time.

Senior-Led Throughout

The person who discusses the engagement with you at the outset is the same person who does the work. We do not pass projects to junior staff after the first meeting.

Honest About Scope

We are clear about what advisory work can and cannot achieve. We do not provide tax or legal opinion; we frame the questions those professionals will need to answer.

Fixed, Transparent Fees

Our engagement fees are stated plainly before work begins. There are no variable billing rates or supplementary charges for additional conversations within scope.

A Useful Outside View

Business owners who know their operations well often find value in a thoughtful reading from someone outside the day-to-day. We aim to be that — without overstepping what we actually know.

Ready to talk through what you are working on?

An initial conversation is free of charge. We will listen to where things stand and tell you honestly whether we think we can add something useful.

Common Questions

Things people ask before getting in touch

What sorts of businesses do you work with?
We work primarily with established, owner-led businesses based in Sabah — tour operators, dive and hospitality businesses, trading companies, and groups whose interests now cover more than one sector. We do not work with early-stage startups or businesses outside Malaysia's East Malaysia region as a rule, though we consider each enquiry on its own terms.
How does the engagement process begin?
We start with a free initial conversation — by phone or in person in Kota Kinabalu — to understand what you are working through and whether our approach is likely to be useful. If both parties want to proceed, we set out the scope and fee in a brief written agreement before work begins.
Do your fees include travel and other expenses?
For the Tourism Operator Strategy Review, a site visit within Sabah is included in the stated fee. For engagements involving travel outside Kota Kinabalu, reasonable travel costs are agreed in advance and set out separately in the engagement letter.
Do you provide ongoing retainer support?
Our standard engagements are project-based with defined end points. Some clients do return for follow-on work after a period. We do not offer standing retainer arrangements as a default, as we find the project model produces more focused work for both parties.
How is the final written document structured?
The written output varies by engagement type but is always clear and self-contained. It is written to be read by the principal and shared selectively with other advisors. We avoid jargon where plain language will do, and we are explicit about where our analysis ends and where the judgement calls belong with you or your specialist advisors.
Is what we discuss kept confidential?
Yes. The engagement letter includes a standard confidentiality clause. We do not discuss client matters with other clients or third parties, and we do not use client information in any materials we may produce for other purposes.
